Kent moved to New Mexico in 1996, and worked here and internationally as a consulting forester before coming to work for FWRI. He has degrees from NC State, Colorado State, and Clemson, and has worked for Weyerhaeuser, the Peace Corps, the University of Missouri, Auburn University, Virginia Tech, and Cornell University.

Alan is a Rural Sociologist with a background in Sustainable Community Development and Natural Resources Law and Policy. He has a B.A. from the University of California-Berkeley in Sociology and Spanish, an M.S. from the University of Washington in Forest Management, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University in Development Sociology, and he currently is working on a J.D. at the University of New Mexico School of Law. He has worked with the Peace Corps, the National Park Service, and the National Audubon Society, and has taught Sociology and Community Development at several universities.

Patti is a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist at the NM Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute. Patti's background includes working with GIS and Remote Sensing technologies for agricultural and wetlands applications at the University of Nebraska. At NMFWRI she works with GIS for forest monitoring applications as well as using imagery and LiDAR to derive detailed land cover classifications using eCognition software.

Josie is currently the Administrative Associate for the NM Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute. She has been an employee with NM Highlands University for the past 17 years.

Kathryn R. Mahan

Kathryn's background includes working in various capacities in developed and wildland riparian and upland areas with the Hermit’s Peak Watershed Alliance, the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, the United World College Wilderness Program, the Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge, the Sapello-Rociada Volunteer Fire Company, and the University of Wyoming. Her current projects at the NMFWRI include riparian monitoring of invasive phreatophyte treatments with the Greater Rio Grande Watershed Alliance, vegetation monitoring with the Rio Mora National Wildlife Refuge, and fire monitoring plots across the state with the field crew.

Mrs. Sena received a Bachelor of Science in Watershed Management and a Master of Life Science with a concentration in Natural Resources Management from New Mexico Highlands University. Mrs. Sena has experience in an integrated approach to forest and watershed health to help facilitate sustainable natural resource management. She is a published author and her education and     experience has given her a broad background of skills in community development. Mrs. Sena has also worked with the US Forest Service International Programs Department on missions abroad, as well as assisting with US based international seminars to learn more about climate change and watershed health.

She has a BA in Geography from Humboldt State University and an MS in Environment and Development from King’s College London. Her current projects at NMFWRI include a statewide geodatabase of vegetation treatments.
