Monitoring crew provides field-based lecture

NMFWRI ecological monitoring staff provided an all-day field-based guest lecture to the New Mexico Highlands University Forestry Prescribed Fire class up at Black Lake near Angel Fire, NM in September. NMFWRI has long-term monitoring plots at Black Lake and staff worked with the NMHU class to take photopoints, measurements of fuel load, weather, and fuel moistures to assist with the go/no-go decision of the Black Lake Prescribed burn. The ecological monitoring staff potentially will monitor fire effects if the prescribed fire occurs in October.
