The NMFWRI Ecological Monitoring team spent part of July working on a project in partnership with the New Mexico Department of Wildlife at the Edward Sargent Wildlife Management Area near Chama, NM. This is part of a multi-year effort by NMDW to implement process-based restoration through construction of in-stream structures, grazing exclosures, and support for recovery of the riparian meadows in the area. NMFWRI’s Monitoring crew collected dozens of photopoints and conducted detailed vegetation monitoring at 11 locations along the Rio Chamita, Nabor and Sixto to support NMDW in tracking changes in these reaches as the restoration work continues.
