As part of our continuing Querencia in Action series, NMFWRI hosted a bark beetle workshop in Rociada with instructor Victor Lucero, Forest Health Coordinator for the New Mexico Forestry Division. More than 40 people from San Miguel, Mora and Santa Fe counties attended to learn about bark beetle identification and management. The workshop included a slideshow of images, a show-and-tell of beetle samples, and a field site visit to a nearby property to identify beetle-impacted trees and the insects within.
Forests impacted by drought and fire often see an increase in bark beetle activity, which can increase tree mortality.
