The cause of the fast moving wildfire, which began May 10, is still under investigation. It started in Las Tusas, about 13 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NM and near the burn scar left by the historic 2022 Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon fire. The fire was 90% contained May 15. FWRI was interviewed regarding how the recent fires have changed the local landscape.
