Small fuel treatments – some under an acre – reduced burn severity in the Hermit's Peak-Calf Canyon Fire
For Northern New Mexico land owners wondering if their efforts to thin forests and reduce fire fuel loads on their property makes a difference, a new study offers some evidence that it does.
In a study published recently in The International Journal of Wildland Fire, researchers James Biggs and Nathan Tomczyk examined the effectiveness of fuel treatments on monitored forest plots within the the 2022 Hermit’s Peak-Calf Canyon burn scar in New Mexico.
