Participants enjoy Plant Association tour

The New Mexico Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute partnered with the New Mexico Forestry Division (lead instructor Mary Stuever, Chama District Forester) and the U.S. Forest Service in late August 2023 to host a week-long workshop on Plant Communities of Northern New Mexico. Participants included representatives from NMFWRI, NMSFD, USFS, Philmont Scout Ranch, and other organizations. They toured a dozens of sites around the region looking at plant communities and plant associations, including areas burned in recent wildfires.

Participants learned how elevation, terrain and wildfire impact the types of plant species seen, both native and invasive.
