Strengthening Collaborative Capacity in New Mexico

In January and February, the NMFWRI Collaboration Program partnered with Southwest Decision Resources (SDR) and several partners to host facilitation trainings for individuals working in collaborative conservation efforts across New Mexico.

Since early 2025, the Collaboration Program has been working with SDR to convene a statewide planning team of partners from universities, agencies, nonprofits, and consulting organizations. Together, the group worked to identify collaborative capacity needs in New Mexico and shape the training effort.

In January and February 2026, the team hosted two 2-day trainings in Silver City and Albuquerque. Participants explored practical tools for leading meetings, navigating challenging conversations, and strengthening collaboration across agencies, organizations, and communities working on land and water stewardship. A final virtual training will take place in April.

Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing that the training was practical and immediately relevant to their work.

This effort reflects the Collaboration Program’s belief that building collaborative capacity in New Mexico supports stronger partnerships and better outcomes for the communities and landscapes we care about.
