Community Wildfire Resiliency Fairs
After wildfire, communities have an ongoing need for practical information and resources regarding restoration, flood and fire mitigation and prevention. Resource fairs organized by the New Mexico Forest and Watershed Restoration Institute bring together nonprofits, volunteer groups and agencies to provide assistance to residents impacted by fire. NMFWRI trained landowners and agencies how to create printable maps of property within the burn scar. Agencies attending these fairs included New Mexico State University Agriculture Extension, local soil and water conservation districts, New Mexico Forestry Division, mental health organizations, New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, local nonprofit assistance and land restoration groups, Highlands University forestry students, the NIFA Fire Adapted Communities program, FEMA, USFS and others.
